A caberet-style performance featuring the musical talents of Dave Burnett, The Home Service is a mother’s story from childhood during the First World War to the end of a long life in the 1990s. Touching on the events, incidents and innovations of last century it features diverse poems concerning The Armistice, Empire celebrations, wartime morals, VE Day, 50s marriage, families & children, pop music, teenage rebellion, aging gracefully and sundry other topics all combined with ukulele & vocal renditions of popular songs of the period including Ain't She Sweet, We'll Meet Again, Love is the Sweetest Thing, Let's Twist Again, Tainted Love, Wild Thing and The Glory of Love.
Dave Burnett has been playing in bands in and around Dundee since 50s. He currently plays lead guitar with The Accelerators and guitars & ukulele with The Black Cat Jook Band.
Performances have included Callander Poetry Weekend (2011) and Dundee Rep Theatre (2012). The collaboration is on-going and available for performances.
